"We must go back and recapture those "old" values, for it is those "old" values that have helped to get us to where we are today. We must do this for the sake of our children."

What are your thoughts?

I agree with Millicent, as a young woman I see there are too many distractions. There are many YOUNG parents' incapable of taking care of themselves yet tries to take care of their children! Sounds insane huh, most of the time they focus on themselves rather than the child. They would rather worry about the next club outfit or what’s going ‘down’ at Mike’s party tonight. And they forget that Jermaine had homework assignment tomorrow Or FCAT are going to be given next week. They don’t realize the decision they are making now tremendously affect their children’s live. If parents can prevent teen pregnancy, there would be fewer problems to worry about. I also see the distraction of technology and what’s it doing to the mind of some black people. When something new arrives, they totally forgot about what’s important most, which is the values of EDUCATION, instead young people are more focus on entertainments. As illustrations brands computers with recent technology are create for easy usage; to do a PowerPoint presentation or a research paper; however youth today are blind from the sources in front of them. They are mostly focus on who get what first and how much they spend on it. In addition I feel the music industry also has a great impact on our youth. Parents should focus on their child role models and who choose to imitate. It seems younger children are grasping on quickly with this generation. Children’ young as five and six are mostly wrong-doing and imaging rappers and singer. They are influence at a very early age and parents need to be aware of that. Parents should structure their child’s lives. Just like in a school system there are schedules that they must attain by. Parents should take the same initiative to do the same for everyday of the week. One important subject they should incorporate in their daily activity is GOD words….Next Setting GOALS and REWARDS for ACCOMPLISHING them. I just turned 20 years old this weekend and I wish some teens my ages can see things from my perspective!!

Truly I believe that when we as a people return back to the basic principles of Gods' word that has been instilled in us by our parents and become proactive in educating this younger generation then and only then will we see the change we so desired. Our generation and those before us were very fortunate that a solid foundation was laid for us. Sometimes we may have thought it somewhat cruel or unkind when we were young ,but look where it has gotten us. We would never have made it without those stern principles and descipline that our parents instilled in and on us.Thank God for parents who knows the valus of Gods' word. We owe it to our children to ensure they are given the same opportunities especially since they are bambarded with so much greater trials. Continue to send these comments they are truly helpful.
